About Your New Website

I can see my website but my friend can't

When your website first goes "live" it can take a little while before it is accessible on everyones Internet connection. This is called propagation and can take up to 48 hours from the time your site goes live.

I can't see my website when I type in the address

Occasionally we get feedback from people saying their website doesn't load when they type in the web address. This is usually because they are typing the address into Google instead of the "Address Bar".

Below is a screen shot of a web browser when it first opens on your computer. This screen shot is from a Mac but the same principles apply for Windows too.

Note where the correct place is to enter the web address. An example of a correctly entered address can be seen below

After you enter the address, press the "enter" key on your keyboard and you should see your new website

Why isn't my new site in Google?

Now you have a new website, it doesn't mean you will instantly appear in Google. After we launch your website, Google is notified that your site has been created and is asked to start visiting it on a regular basis. The first time Google visits your site it will download all of your site's content and "index" it against all the other sites on the Internet. This process can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks but rest assured, given enough time, Google will soon start to list your site where appropriate.

Why aren't I first on Google?

Google's mission is to provide the best results possible to it's users. Given this, Google is particularly harsh towards new websites as they are yet to prove themselves as "good websites". Given enough time however, if you have lots of relivant content, incoming links and are contributing new content to your site on a regular basis, you will see your search engine ranking improve over time.
