Cross Browser Compatibility - Adelaide

What is Browser Compatibility?

Websites are essentially program code mixed up with text andgraphics. When a web browser downloads a website, it interprets this code, textand graphics and displays it in a way it believes the web designer intended. Unfortunatelynot all web browsers interpret websites in the same way and therefore browsercompatibility is in effect, what a web designer does to try and account forthese different interpretations.

As of this time of writing, web browsers have been in popularuse for over 14 years. During this time numerous software developers havereleased different web browsers for the public to use. As a result, there arenow hundreds of web browsers for people to choose from and trying to accountfor each of these browsers has become a near impossible task.

How does Blis Web Agency approach Browser Compatibility?

Blis Web Agency are guided in their development by thestandards set by the W3C (Word Wide Web Consortium) in regard to creatingwebsites that can be viewed by almost anyone. Unfortunately the standards setby the W3C aren't always followed by the software developers who write the webbrowsers and therefore building a website to W3C standards isn't always enough.

Therefore Blis Web Agency's approach to the problem is two-fold. We believe that regardless of whether a computer user is on Windows, Mac or Linux, they should be able to view the website. It is for this reason we ensure all our websites work in the Firefox browser which is one of the few webbrowsers that is available across all three of these computing platforms.

Our second approach is guided by supporting the browsers that are automatically available on new Mac and Windows computer systems. These browsers include Internet Explorer 7 on Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 6 onWindows XP and Safari on Macintosh OS X.

By using this two-fold approach, Blis Web Agency websites cater for over 94%* of web users regardless of whether these browsers supportall of the standards set by the W3C. It also ensures that if someone is using aweb browser which falls in the remaining 6% (of which there are hundreds), thatuser can switch to their computer systems default browser if need be.
